Nestled within the seven valleys surrounded by National Parks, State Forests and conservation areas, and only 142km away from Sydney, you will find our small but vibrant school community located on Wiradjuri land.  The school, on this site has had a storied history in providing quality secondary education for the residents of Lithgow and surrounds for many years.  Originally, the Cooerwull Academy, it was founded in 1883 and was one of the founding schools of the Athletics Association of the Great Public Schools of New South Wales (GPS).

La Salle Academy is now, a Year 7 – 12 Catholic co-educational secondary school within the Parish of St Patrick and St Francis Xavier.   In 1953, La Salle Academy in its current form was founded by the De La Salle Brothers under the tuition of the Sisters of St Joseph.   These charisms provide La Salle Academy with our guiding principles of providing a quality, inclusive education centred on the living presence of God in our world.  It is through our social justice principles, and demonstrated respect for all, that we empower our students and instil hope for their future and those in our community.

Our school offers a comprehensive curriculum that has successfully allowed our students to transition to University, TAFE, Vocational Education and the workplace.  We are able to meet the diverse needs of our students and have supportive structures in place to assist and enrich their learning journeys.  La Salle Academy also offers co-curricular opportunities in culture, sport and academics that enhance our educational outcomes, whilst also highlighting the amazing talents of our student population.

La Salle Academy values the relationships with our parents/guardians.  We assume a shared responsibility for the pride that our students demonstrate for themselves, the school and our wider communities.  With a pastoral focus of strengthening student’s sense of self worth and belief, we look to support, encourage and enhance the wellbeing our students as they engage in the endless opportunities that can be experienced at La Salle Academy.

Entering my first year at La Salle Academy,  I hope to be a visible presence at not only our school events, but throughout the wider community.  Alongside our staff, I am hoping to enrich the lives our students and create a safe supportive yet focused school environment.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website, and I do hope that I may have the opportunity of showcasing that La Salle Academy is ‘Big enough to matter… small enough to care’.

God Bless

Glenn Carpenter
